Matta Rice

Matta rice, also known as Kerala Red Rice or Rosematta rice, is a popular rice variety grown in the Palakkad region of Kerala and parts of Karnataka, India. It is easily recognizable by its distinctive reddish-brown color and coarser texture. This rice is known for its robust flavor, chewy texture, and nutritional value, as it is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals due to the presence of the bran layer.

Matta rice is commonly used in traditional South Indian cuisine, particularly in Kerala, for dishes like idli, dosa, and kanji (rice porridge). It pairs well with curries and vegetarian meals due to its earthy taste. It is also often used in celebratory meals like Kerala's famous "Sadhya" (a feast served on banana leaves). In addition to its taste and texture, Matta rice is appreciated for its health benefits, including promoting digestion and maintaining better blood sugar levels.
